Welcome to Maccan Community Center Socitey Official website

Nestled in the heart of Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, the village of Maccan carries a story that stretches back over 11,000 years. The first Palaeo-Indians who arrived here became the ancestors of the Mi’kmaq people, whose nomadic traditions of hunting and fishing shaped the land and culture. Many of our local place names honor this heritage, and even the word “Maccan” itself comes from the Mi’kmaq Maakan or Makan, meaning “good place for fishing.”.

The Maccan Community Center Society has been serving the people of Maccan for more than 20 years, offering a space for connection, creativity, and community spirit. After a period of dormancy, the Society was proudly reinstated thanks to the guidance of former board member and social activist Rick Dwyer, alongside the dedication and investments of our current Directors. Today, we stand renewed and ready to build a brighter future together.

One Heart, One Mission, One Maccan….. Together we thrive…..!
